The Calgary Westwinds Ismaili Jamatkhana is a structure that contains a prayer hall surrounded by social spaces for community gatherings. The project exemplifies AMAN’s commitment to the creation of communities and the application of its understanding of the cultural aspects of the project.

The building design and materials are reminiscent of the Great Mosque of Cordoba in its use of strongly geometric shapes, including grey brick placed in strips as accents along the facades. The main floor of the Jamatkhana houses a prayer hall, ante room, social / banquet hall, servery, sports area and library.

In accordance with Islamic rituals, the prayer hall on the main floor is located facing towards Mecca. The second floor includes office spaces and the third floor has several classrooms, to host students for lectures and workshops. AMAN delivered this project on schedule, well within budget, and with full commitment to the building’s intended purpose as a cultural and religious gathering place.
